Luxury pillows from the House of Dumas

Maison Dumas is the story of a family that has been working for 5 generations to preserve a unique expertise in small bedding items. Founded in 1910, the company has been run by five generations of craftsmen. Thanks to the excellence of its craftsmen and their unique skills, Dumas Paris supplies some of the world's finest hotels. The workshops, which have been awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, produce pillows with the precision of exceptional craftsmanship, combined with innovative techniques. The precious filling is blown into refined fabric envelopes, sewn directly in the workshops. This century-old craft takes the time to apply unique manual gestures to guarantee exceptional quality. Each luxury pillow made by Maison Dumas is individually inspected and packaged.

A committed company

For Maison Dumas, the priority is for pillow production to be responsible and sustainable. The brand has opted to recycle its manufacturing waste and reduce the CO2 emissions associated with pillow production. These emissions are measured during bi-annual carbon audits. Part of the profits generated by production also fund carbon sequestration projects that contribute to global carbon neutrality. These consist of forest plantations in Bourgogne Franche-Comté, in which Maison Dumas employees participate.

Duvets

Down duvet or synthetic duvet: how to make the right choice?

Maison Dumas uses two types of filling: synthetic duvets and natural duvets, all wrapped in pure white cotton sateen. These two types of filling offer comfort to all types of sleeper.

Down and feather filling

The natural down and feather filling has thermoregulatory properties, so you can sleep at the right temperature all night long. It compensates for every variation in body temperature that occurs during different sleep cycles, keeping the sleeper at the right temperature at all times. There are two types: Top-of-the-range duck down duvets and top-of-the-range goose down duvets. Feathers are not used in fillings, as they are too rigid, do not absorb heat and provide no comfort. Dumas Paris also makes a blanket in French wool, to offer a responsible natural alternative.

Synthetic microfibre lining

The synthetic filling is made up of microfibres. This is the finest synthetic fibre, offering enveloping, soft comfort. The result is a perfectly hypoallergenic and healthy product. The density of the microfibre retains the heat emitted by the sleeper's body, which is compensated for by the square stitching of the top-of-the-range synthetic duvet, which evacuates this excess heat. The top-of-the-range synthetic duvet may also be easier to wash, as its structure is synthetic and resilient.

What weight of duvet should I choose, depending on the season?

The weight of your Haute Literie duvet will determine its warmth and therefore your thermal comfort. The heavier the weight, the greater the warmth. For a restful night's sleep, it is advisable for the bedroom to be heated little or not at all. Maison Dumas has designed 4 types of top-of-the-range duvets to suit the seasons and bedroom temperatures: winter duvets for rooms between 16°C and 18°C, temperate duvets for mid-seasons and rooms between 18°C and 20°C, and summer duvets for warmer seasons with rooms over 20°C. The final type is the 4-season duvet, which combines the three previous types in a single item. All Dumas luxury duvets are wrapped in a pure white cotton sateen fibre, silky and breathable.

What size duvet should I choose for my mattress?

The format or size of a top-of-the-range duvet should not be overlooked, as its impact on sleep is crucial. The measure for determining the right size is the size of the mattress. Based on this element, you need to consider the need for an overhang on each side of the bed in order to be comfortable and have elegant bedding with an overhang and possibly an edge. This requirement depends on the height of the bed base and mattress, the average being 40-50 centimetres. This means that twice 50 centimetres (for both sides of the bed) must be added to the width of the mattress to obtain the size of your duvet. For example, for a 140-centimetre-wide mattress, you'll need to choose a 240x220 duvet. The sheets are also important, and anything too heavy will reduce the duvet's loft and therefore its thermal effect.

How do you care for and wash a top-of-the-range duvet without damaging it?

Top-of-the-range duvets have an average lifespan of 10 years, especially those filled with down, feathers and down feathers, provided they are cared for regularly and carefully. Our first piece of advice is to shake it well every day, to give the filling and fibres more volume and prevent them from settling or even breaking. Thermal shock is the most effective way of combating the proliferation of dust mites, so you can expose your duvet to the cold of winter or the heat of summer on a daily basis. Finally, all duvets can be washed at 40°C (whatever the type of filling), and must be tumble-dried on a gentle cycle, repeated until all traces of moisture have disappeared. This will also allow the filling to plump up thanks to the drum rotation cycles. Don't hesitate to add a couple of tennis balls, which will hit the filling and help break up any lumps.
