Luxury pillows from the House of Dumas

Maison Dumas is the story of a family that has been working for 5 generations to preserve a unique expertise in small bedding items. Founded in 1910, the company has been run by five generations of craftsmen. Thanks to the excellence of its craftsmen and their unique skills, Dumas Paris supplies some of the world's finest hotels. The workshops, which have been awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, produce pillows with the precision of exceptional craftsmanship, combined with innovative techniques. The precious filling is blown into refined fabric envelopes, sewn directly in the workshops. This century-old craft takes the time to apply unique manual gestures to guarantee exceptional quality. Each luxury pillow made by Maison Dumas is individually inspected and packaged.

A committed company

For Maison Dumas, the priority is for pillow production to be responsible and sustainable. The brand has opted to recycle its manufacturing waste and reduce the CO2 emissions associated with pillow production. These emissions are measured during bi-annual carbon audits. Part of the profits generated by production also fund carbon sequestration projects that contribute to global carbon neutrality. These consist of forest plantations in Bourgogne Franche-Comté, in which Maison Dumas employees participate.

Temperate duvets

Why choose a temperate duvet?

While the summer months call for a light duvet and the colder seasons for a warm winter duvet, the mid-seasons call for a duvet with balanced thermal comfort and breathability. To find this balance, the craftsmen at Maison Dumas have designed two collections of temperate duvets, with fillings adapted to these mid-seasons, between summer and winter, thanks to goose down, duck down and synthetic fibres whose weight is carefully adjusted.

Pourquoi choisir une couette tempérée ?

Spring and autumn are seasons when temperatures stabilise and balance out. The bedroom is neither too hot nor too cold, and there is no need for warm or light bedding to compensate for wide variations in temperature. This is why a temperate duvet is ideal for mid-season bedding, especially when the room temperature is between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. It is perfectly balanced, without over-emphasising breathability or thermal insulation, and regulates heat to maintain a constant temperature under the duvet.

How do you choose the right size duvet for your mattress and bed?

To determine the right size of tempered duvet, it's essential to take into account the size of your mattress. This will tell you how much of the duvet you'll need on each side of the bed to ensure comfort and create an elegant look on your bed, with the option of tucking the duvet in if necessary. The recommended average length is 40 centimetres, or even 50 centimetres depending on the height of the bed base and mattress (if the latter is thick). To calculate the ideal size for your duvet, simply add twice this measurement (for both sides of the bed) to the width of your mattress. For example, if your mattress is 140 centimetres wide, your duvet should be at least 240 centimetres wide to ensure an adequate fall, especially if you plan to tuck your bed in.

The purchase of bed linen can also be a criterion for choosing the right size when buying a tempered duvet. Although Maison Dumas advises you to choose your duvet according to the size of your mattress and not the size of your sheets, which should fit your duvet.

How do you care for your temperate duvet?

The lifespan of a temperate duvet is 8 to 10 years, subject to regular and careful maintenance. Dumas Paris recommends the following steps to ensure the longevity of your duvet:
- Shake it daily to restore its volume, preventing sagging and deterioration of the filling.
- Use heat shock as an effective way of preventing the proliferation of dust mites. Alternate between exposing your duvet to the cold of winter and the heat of summer on a daily basis, depending on the season.
- Machine wash at 40°C in a large drum. Make sure you dry the duvet thoroughly using a gentle setting, repeating until it is completely free of moisture. This will help the filling to swell as the drum rotates.
