Luxury pillows from the House of Dumas

Maison Dumas is the story of a family that has been working for 5 generations to preserve a unique expertise in small bedding items. Founded in 1910, the company has been run by five generations of craftsmen. Thanks to the excellence of its craftsmen and their unique skills, Dumas Paris supplies some of the world's finest hotels. The workshops, which have been awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, produce pillows with the precision of exceptional craftsmanship, combined with innovative techniques. The precious filling is blown into refined fabric envelopes, sewn directly in the workshops. This century-old craft takes the time to apply unique manual gestures to guarantee exceptional quality. Each luxury pillow made by Maison Dumas is individually inspected and packaged.

A committed company

For Maison Dumas, the priority is for pillow production to be responsible and sustainable. The brand has opted to recycle its manufacturing waste and reduce the CO2 emissions associated with pillow production. These emissions are measured during bi-annual carbon audits. Part of the profits generated by production also fund carbon sequestration projects that contribute to global carbon neutrality. These consist of forest plantations in Bourgogne Franche-Comté, in which Maison Dumas employees participate.

Synthetic duvets

What is the difference between a duck down duvet and a synthetic duvet?

Dumas uses two types of filling for its duvets: synthetic and natural. This diversity of choice aims to satisfy the comfort needs of all types of sleeper. Duvets made from duck down duvet or goose down, a combination of down and feathers, offer excellent breathability and air circulation, ensuring a sensation of lightness. These down duvets effectively compensate for the variations in body temperature that occur throughout the sleep cycle, keeping the sleeper comfortably warm. The synthetic duvets are made from microfibres, making them totally hypoallergenic and healthy. The density of this filling gives a heavier feel. The non-partitioned check quilting helps to create thermal bridges and evacuate excess heat emitted by the body during deep sleep cycles.

How comfortable is your duvet?

The weight per square metre of the filling in your duvet plays an essential role in regulating heat and, consequently, in your thermal comfort. A higher weight means greater heat retention capacity. With this in mind, La Maison Dumas has designed 3 categories of synthetic duvet, adapted to the different seasons and ambient temperatures. Winter synthetic duvets are designed for rooms between 16°C and 18°C, while temperate synthetic duvets are ideal for mid-season (spring and autumn) and rooms between 18°C and 20°C. For the hot summer months, summer duvets provide balanced thermal comfort, even in rooms over 20°C. The final variation is the 4-season synthetic duvet, which combines the three previous categories in a single versatile product. It is made up of a summer duvet and a temperate duvet which, when tied together, form a winter duvet.

How do I choose the right size of synthetic duvet?

The size of your duvet is a determining factor in the quality of your sleep. The key to determining the right size duvet lies in the dimensions of your mattress. The size of the duvet will be made up of the width of the mattress plus between 40 and 50 centimetres of overhang on each side of the bed. This balance ensures that the bed is perfectly covered, that two people are comfortable in bed and that the mattress looks elegant and graceful. So if your mattress is 140 centimetres wide, your duvet should be 240 centimetres wide. It's also important to note that excessively thick sheets could reduce the softness and, therefore, the thermal capacity of the duvet.

How do I care for a synthetic duvet?

A duvet generally lasts around 10 years, provided it is regularly and carefully cared for. To ensure its longevity, we recommend shaking the duvet every day, which helps to restore the volume of the filling and prevent it from settling or even deteriorating. To combat dust mites effectively, it is advisable to subject the duvet to temperature variations, exposing it to the cold of winter or the heat of summer on a daily basis. Machine washing at 40°C is essential, followed by tumble drying on a gentle cycle. It is essential to continue this process until all traces of moisture have completely disappeared, which will also help to plump up the filling thanks to the rotating movements of the drum. To optimise this process, we recommend adding two tennis balls, which will help prevent the filling from clumping.
