Choosing your pillow

How do I choose a pillow?

Choosing the right pillow for you can be difficult, which is why we've created the Personalised Ideal Night® tool.

Paediatricians advise against having a child sleep on a pillow under the age of 36 months.

What type of filling for your pillow?

There are two main types of upholstery, commonly referred to as natural or synthetic. Some people prefer natural pillows because of family tradition or because they have a reputation for being soft and fluffy.

You should be aware that the comfort of a natural pillow and a synthetic pillow will not be identical, despite the fact that they are assigned to the same comfort categories.

Natural pillow

For natural pillows, the higher the percentage of down, the more plump and supple they will be.

Synthetic pillow

On the other hand, some people choose synthetic for fear of allergies and ease of maintenance. For pillows filled with synthetic materials, the material itself will provide either softness or firmness.

How comfortable do you want it to be?

Every person has their own way of sleeping, so they need personalised comfort. That's why we've grouped pillows into three comfort families. If you prefer a pillow that's flat and malleable, you'll choose the soft pillow; if you're looking for a pillow that's enveloping and welcoming, the soft pillow will be your best ally; if you want to keep your head and neck supported, the firm pillow will be for you. So comfort is an important consideration when choosing a pillow.

What is the ideal pillow size?

The choice of pillow format is also very important for optimising the average eight hours of sleep per night. An "American" pillow, i.e. a rectangular pillow, does not provide the same support as a European pillow with a square shape. The European pillow will support your head and neck, but also the top of your shoulders. The rectangular pillow supports your head and neck only.

What position do you sleep in?

Everyone has their own sleep habits: some people fall asleep on their back, others on their side, in a dog-leg position, or on their stomach. It's important to ask yourself this question, because choosing a pillow that isn't suited to your position could either give you the night of your dreams or a nightmare. In fact, a pillow that is not suited to your position could either hurt your neck or accentuate the arch of your back, for example, causing severe pain during the day.
